A 1986 oil on canvas painting by Syrian Kurdish artist Omar ‘Malva’ Hamdi (Syrian Arab Republic/Austria, 1951- ). This Impressionist style work depicts a rolling landscape in which trees stand beneath a beautiful blue sky. Signed ‘Malva’ and dated to the lower right. Painting is mounted in a gilt frame.

Hamdi is one of the foremost contemporary impressionists in the world. He creates inviting and dramatic scenes of movement and expression with his bold use of color and brush. Born in 1951 in Tel Nail, he was raised in a small village of mud cottages in the most northern part of Syria.
