"Backing Him Up" Talio-Chrome Etching

Item Details

A talio-chrome etching. This lithograph, title Backing Him Up, depicts two English setters in the open field, both in the on point pose indicating that they have found their fowl in the grass. In the background are the two hunters with their horses. An ardent fan of hunting and birding dogs in North America, Percival Rosseau (born in Baton Rouge, Lousiana, 1859) painted and etched numerous portraits of the breeds at work. His tremendously detailed artwork only began to receive acclaim posthumously (1937). This print is a talio-chrome lithograph, a form of intaglio print. Chrome likely refers to the method of chrome plating metal etched plates to preserve the crispness over a longer period of use.
