Herkimer Diamond Stones
Item Details
A trio of Herkimer diamond stones. This selection includes a large stone which comes with a small acrylic mount (unattached), and two smaller stones. These stones are in their natural form, as such they are unfinished. Herkimer diamonds are a type of double-sided quartz found in clay substrate, but unattached to other stone, unusual in that most crystals are embedded in a host stone of some kind. The original discovery of Herkimer diamonds in the 19th century was at a mine in Herkimer County, New York, hence the name. New crops of these stones have subsequently been discovered in Tibet and Afghanistan as well. These stones come in a variety of opacities ranging from clear, to occluded and even smoky.
