An original oil painting by renowned Thomas Corwin Lindsay (Ohio, 1839 – 1907). The Impressionistic painting shows a serene grassy pasture where cows graze. Lindsay’s signature is carved into the paint at the lower left-hand corner. A work of art that is presented in a wide gold tone wooden frame. Thomas Corwin Lindsay was born and raised in Cincinnati, OH, in 1839. He is widely recognized as a landscape and animal painter, although he was also known to have done portraits. In his later years, Thomas was known for his tranquil scenes of farmsteads and livestock. In the autumn of 1858, he left for a sketching trip to Eastern Pennsylvania and upon his return in 1859 Thomas opened a studio on West Fourth Street in Cincinnati, OH. In the 1860s, he studied in Dusseldorf and Paris, returning to Cincinnati in the summer of 1868. Thomas was an early member of the Cincinnati Art Club and the Society of Western Artists. He exhibited at the 1859 Ohio Mechanics’ Institute annual, Cincinnati Industrial Exposition (1870-83), Pogue’s (1875), and the Art Institute of Chicago (1896). There are a collection of his paintings in the Cincinnati Art Museum.
