"Stuck on the Mud" Oil Painting by Joseph Wilhelm (1923-2003)

An original oil painting on stretched canvas titled ‘Stuck in the Mud’ by Joseph Wilhelm (New Orleans 1923-2003). The accurate portrayal of the ship Bodo (pronounced Bodeh) makes evident the artist’s attention to even the most minute detail. The back of the painting contains a hand written note by the artist chronicling the events that led to the ship being stuck in the mud of the Mississippi in June, 1968. The canvas is presented without a frame.
Joseph Wilhelm was born in New Orleans, he was a preeminent ship modeler before turning to oil painting later in life. His art is avidly collected worldwide. Joseph Wilhelm died in Covington, KY in 2003 at the age of 80.
