"Quiet Haven" Original Oil Painting by Edmond J. Fitzgerald

An original oil painting titled ‘Quiet Haven’ depicting a harbor scene and the dock by noted Cincinnati artist Edmond J. Fitzgerald. The oil painting is executed on canvas board using both a dry brush technique as well as heavier paint strokes to create a contrasting texture. The painting is signed by the artist in the lower right corner and is presented in a beveled linen filet with a gold wood frame. A label affixed to the back of the painting indicates the painting was displayed in an exhibit at the University Club in Cincinnati in 1994.
Edmond J. Fitzgerald was born in Seattle and attended the California School of Fine Arts. He is a nationally known artist who was considered on par with Winslow Homer due to his mastery with watercolors. After serving in the Navy Reserves for 26 years, he taught at both Parson’s School of Design and the New York Academy of Design. In 1977 he moved to Cincinnati where he died of cancer at the age of 77. His paintings are included in the White House, George Washington University, the Seattle Art Museum and the U.S. Maritime Naval War College. He belonged to the Royal Society of Arts of England, the Cincinnati Art Club and the Ohio Watercolor Society.
Condition
The painting is in very good condition , the linen filet at the bottom edge shows some foxing or discoloration and there is a small chip at the bottom left corner of the frame.
