Wm. Resor & Co. Cottage Franklin Parlor Stove with Tiles
Item Details
A Cottage Franklin No J3 coal burning parlor stove by Wm. Resor & Co. of Cincinnati, Ohio. This once stunning stove needs someone who will appreciate its history and beauty to love it and give it a new home. Williams Resor received patents for the majority of his stoves in 1854. This stove possibly dates between the 1880s and 1910. This stove is more compact than most and the rounded design of the back allows it to be placed in tighter spaces. This front loading stove loads through the two sliding upper doors with eight mica windows. The two lower sliding doors with four mica windows are for draft control. This stove has a 12’ fire pot, and above the fire pot are four masonry look tiles that have iron crosses on them and the word ‘Newton & Co, Ironstone’. The four blue flower medallion tiles accent the lovely floriated and foliated castings, which are further enhanced by surrounding scroll work. On top there is a lift up round lid with lifter where you could add small pieces of coal directly through the opening, or you could place a kettle over the hole to heat it faster. We have a picture of this stove in better days, and she was absolutely stunning. With some love and work she could be brought back to her former beauty.
Condition
The stove appears structurally sound. A small piece of iron is present, but has broken off where you would sit a kettle. The original finish is gone and the stove has started to rust. Five of the mica windows are missing.
