This book is complete in one volume divided into two parts with the first being The Border Captain, copyright 1933, and the second part Portrait of a President, copyright 1937. Published by the Bobbs-Merrill Co. Andrew Jackson, nicknamed Old Hickory, was the seventh President of the United States. He was born March 15, 1767, in Waxhaws, SC and Died: June 8, 1845, Nashville, TN, Presidential term: March 4, 1829 – March 4, 1837 As a soldier, Jackson’s career was spectacular. He started his military career at just 13 as a courier during the American Revolution. But it was his victory over the British at the battle of New Orleans in 1815 where Jackson achieved his fame, a battle which was actually fought after the Treaty of Ghent had been signed. It was a classic example of soldiers, inspired by their leader to rise up against terrible conditions to achieve their mission.
