Original 1962 oil on canvas by Althea Sullivan titled, ‘Jessie Stuart’s Homestead’ is painted in autumnal hues depicting a small cabin and rolling landscape. The cabin is the boyhood home of the famed Kentucky writer and 1954 Kentucky poet laureate located in W. Hallow, Greenup County, Kentucky. Stuart (1906-1984) is known for his depiction of the Kentucky Appalachian community. He was born in the cabin and later in life purchased the farm, renovated the cabin which became his residence. The piece is framed with a light wood shadow box frame. Information and older newspaper clippings on Jesse Stuart are attached to verso.
