Late 19th Century French 950 Silver Flatware

Item Details

A very large late 19th century 950 silver French flatware set made by Henri Soufflot of 89 Rue De Turbigo Paris. The set is marked with Soufflot’s hallmark and the Mercury head stamp hallmark which denotes 950 silver. The set is presented in a custom-made oak storage chest which has Soufflot’s address inscribed to a brass tab to the top edge of the lower section of the hinged box. To the top of the box is an inset brass shield shape which is monogrammed ‘MPI’. The side handles of the box are a later addition and no key for the lock is present. This wonderful set includes thirty-seven dinner knives with ivory handles and alloy metal blades, forty-five dinner forks, twenty-two teaspoons, twenty-seven table spoons, twenty-four cream soup spoons, twenty-three sterling fish forks with chased design to the tines and ivory handles, twenty-four sterling fish knives with chased design to the blades and ivory handles and twenty-four 8’ knives with alloy blades and ivory handles. The beautiful serving pieces in the set include four serving spoons, berry spoon, claw style tongs, two butter knives with ivory handles, a salad set with bone tines and bowl and ivory handles (the tines to the fork are missing a piece), a small carving set and a larger carving set with ivory handles and alloy metal tines and blades. There are many beautiful serving pieces including two casserole spoons with shell shaped bowls, two ornate pierced sugar spoons, crimped bread tongs, bone holder (not sterling) with ivory handle, four oval sauce ladles, two large serving ladles, a large spade shaped server with sterling spade and ivory handle, eight hors d’oeuvres serving utensils, four small condiment spoons and seven individual salt spoons. All handles, either ivory or silver, are monogrammed. Total weight of the solid sterling pieces is 303.8 troy ounces.

Some pieces need polished. Several of the ivory handles have cracks.

Measurement is for the storage box. Total weight of the solid sterling pieces is 303.8 troy ounces which does not include the pieces with ivory handles. Most of pieces with ivory handles are not sterling.
