A circa 1862 Colt model 1860 Army revolver, Civil War era. The Colt Model 1860 Army revolver was a percussion fired six shooter, .44 caliber, manufactured by Colt Firearms, Hartford Connecticut. Standard design employed round barrel, creeping style loading lever, barrel and cylinder held in place and easily removed for loading by releasing removable wedge, four screws, rounded cylinder with notches, brass trigger guard, iron back strap with notch for engaging shoulder stock, walnut grips. Top of barrel is marked ’ – ADDRESS COL. SAML COLT NEW – YORK U. S. AMERICA -’. Left frame is marked “COLTS / PATENT”. Cylinder is marked “COLTS PATENT No.(serial number) / PAT. SEPT 10TH 1850”. Matching serial number, appears seven times, underneath on both sections of frame, trigger guard, backstrap, cylinder, wedge, and inside on cylinder pin. Includes the prestigious Archive Letter from the Colt Manufacturing Company, framed, relating that the gun, serial number 116476, was sold to the United States Government, shipped on March 19, 1863 to the New York Arsenal, with a shipment of 1000 guns.
Condition
A good amount of general wear, the hammer doesn’t cock completely, the loading lever appears to be missing a spring. Please preview personally for the best sense of the piece.
