Mercury in Flight Bronze Sculpture
Item Details
A beautifully rendered bronze sculpture of the god Mercury, reminiscent of Giambologna’s Mercury in Flight. This graceful, finely cast artwork includes the traditional symbols of Mercury, including winged feet and helmet, as well as a staff with entwined snakes, and his association with the wind, here portrayed in the base of the sculpture as a putti head, blowing wind into the wings of this fleet messenger to the gods.
Condition
There are what appear to be two mold lines (or possibly stress marks), one circling the right, outstretched arm just below the elbow and the other encircling the spout of air as it leaves the putti’s mouth.
