Antique Henry Arms Side by Side Black Powder Shotgun

A Henry Arms Company side by side black powder shotgun. The barrel center rib is stamped ‘Compressed Steel Belgium’, with serial no. 8539. The barrels are both stamped in order from top to bottom: EL (provisional, proof house Liege established in 1852), 18.2 (cartridge chamber diameter in millimeters), 12G inside a diamond (the bore is 12 gauge), and the oval containing ELG, with a crown on top (definitive proof house Liege, established in 1893). This long gun features the usual unlocking lever, two external hammers, double trigger pull and trigger guard. The forend and buttstock, both walnut, have checkering. The grip cap is an oval medallion design in composite hard plastic, the stock is walnut, the endstock is a composite hard plastic with checkering. The metal receivers on both sides feature a hunting dog in the field and the name of the arms distributor ‘Henry Arms Co’.

Condition

Needs repair, the left hammer does not release. Due to age it is highly recommended that this weapon not be discharged before inspection by a gunsmith.
