Great Western Railway Candle Wall Sconces
Item Details
A pair of Great Western Railway candle wall sconces. The Great Western Railway, known by its initials GWR, began running trains in 1838, linking London to western England and Wales. Billing itself as the ‘Holiday Line’ around the turn of the century, the GWR did much to both promote and create tourism in England. These brass walls sconces each hold a single candle. The base mounts on a wall and supports the glass chimney and pierced metal cap. The front of the sconces feature a plaque bearing the initials GWR. The bottom of the base can be screwed off.
Condition
Wear consistent with age and use, including some light oxidation and dents around the edges. The sconces seem to be missing the original spring mechanism that lifted the candle as it melted down.
