A restrike woodblock print titled The Fickle Type a part of the series Ten Physiognomical Studies of Women by Japanese artist Kitagawa Utamaro (1753-1806, Edo period), the original dating to 1793-1794. Utamaro is held as one of the greatest ukiyo-e artists of his time, known for his portraits of beautiful Japanese women. The modern restrike is color ink on mica ground, is an erotic print, featuring a Japanese woman with her black hair pulled tightly in a bun, exposing her breast with her loosely draped clothing. The artist signature, title of work and series is to the top left. The print is nicely matted in a light blue fabric, unframed. The original portfolio is included.
