Four scarce antiquarian volumes by John L Stephens titled _Incidents Of Travel’ referring to the Yucatan, Central America and Chiapas, published in 1848 and 1867 by Harper & Brothers, New York. The first two volumes published in 1848 are devoted to the Yucatan and includes 120 engravings, the first being a five fold pull out panoramic image of the ruins in Uxmal. The second set of two volumes published in 1867 are also profusely illustrated with detailed engravings of the stone idols. Both sets are absolutely fascinating glimpses of the discoveries of the 19th century adventurers. Both sets are cloth bound in deep brown and red with gilt titles at the spine.
Condition
The extremities of both sets are in very good condition showing little wear. There is some foxing throughout both sets.
