The 1855 publication of The Life of Gen. Francis Marion, A Celebrated Pertisan Officer In The Revolutionary War, Against The British And Tories In South Carolina And Georgia by Brig. gen. P. Horry and M.L. Weems. The green cloth covered and embossed book was published in Philadelphia by Joseph Allen and Sold by J.P. Lippincott & Co. The front fly page is hand written in pencil indicating the book to have belonged to ‘David Boyd, March 31st the 1877’ and there are humorous illustrations throughout, a favorite being page 153 with the caption reading ‘General Marion Feasting the British officer on sweet potatoes.’
Condition
The exterior of the book shows wear at the edges and corners but the binding is tight and the hinge is good. The interior pages are foxed and discolored.
