Original Framed Portrait by William E Gebhardt

Item Details

An original oil painting on canvas by Cincinnati’s own William Gebhardt (1907 – 1975). A lovely portrait of Rosemary Sawyer Richardson, mother of Melody Sawyer Richardson. This is one of two portraits Rosemary sat for and was painted at 20 Far Hills Drive in Hyde Park. She wears her hair in curls, with beautiful brown eyes and red painted lips. She is adorned in a strapless mahogany dress, she is poised, seated in a green chair with a bouquet of flowers to her right. Gebhardt’s signature is painted to the lower right-hand corner, dated 1948. This lovely portrait is presented in what is most likely the original gilt wood frame with marvelous Victorian applique. William Edwin Gebhardt was born in Franklin, Ohio and was known for his portraits and floral paintings. He also ran the Bill Gebhardt Academy of Art above the Empress Chili Parlor. His work can be found in the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington, D.C., as well as many private collections.
