Mary Vickers Artist's Proof "Be My Friend"

Item Details

An artists’s proof print titled ‘Be My Friend’, by listed American artist Mary Vickers (20th century), signed and titled by the artist in pencil. This artist’s proof print depicts two children in front of a wooden fence, surrounded by flowers. One child has her hands upon the other child’s cheek and a look on her face as if to say ‘Please be my friend’, while the other child leans slightly aback, as if not sure what to think about the this request. This is a nice print of childhood innocence. An artists’s proof is a print done during the print making process which shows the current printing state of a plate while the plate (or woodblock or stone) is being worked on by the artist. Artist proof’s are not counted in limited edition runs. Artist’s poofs belong to the artist, and the number of proofs will vary by work. The artist usually does not sell these proofs all at once, they are sold over time. Artist’s proofs are highly desired due to their rarity, and the difference between them and the final mass produced print. They generally have a 10-30% higher value than the mass production prints.
