Mid 1800s Walnut & Oak Plantation Desk

A simply delightful early Victorian period walnut and oak plantation desk, that dates to the mid 1800s. This desk has a rich old patina that showcases the walnut crotch veneers wonderfully. The drop front is used as writing surface when lowered, and is fitted with a working lock that has the key present, and what may be the original oil cloth on the writing surface. A center drawer with two wooden drawer pulls and a non working lock with key present, offer more options for securing items. Other exterior features of this fine desk are handsomely turned legs on the lower case and panels to the upper case drop front. Inside the desk, you will find two small drawers with wooden pulls, and eleven compartments of of various sizes. The center drawer on the lower case features hand cut dovetails. The top case and lower case are not currently attached, which will make removal from the property easier.
Condition
Top case and lower case are not currently attached. Veneer broken of left side of lower case center drawer. There is a piece of loose veneer inside the desk which may be this broken off piece. The lock mechanism does not work on the lower case center drawer. The key fits, but the lock inner lock mechanism is not turning. Writing surface oil cloth is lifting up at the edges. There is a crack to the top surface of a board that is not all the way through, see photos. Small missing piece of veneer above lower case center drawer lock. Small crack to upper left of the drop front. Item has some scratches and wear to finish.
