Antique Roller Organette "Melodia"
Item Details
An antique, hand-cranked organette, the Melodia by Gately & Company, circa 1880-1900, plus extra 8 inch music scrolls. The machine feeds the paper between two spools, and holes in the paper representing notes pass over a row of holes corresponding to the miniature organ pipes in the bottom of each box, playing the song. The box has a hinged lid which open to reveal the rollers, with the original instructions for loading and playing music attached to the inside of the lid. The box itself is stenciled with gold tone geometric and leaf designs along with the name ‘Melodia’. Operational condition is untested, needs repair and cleaning.
Condition
- the overall structure of the music box is good with minor scratches and wear to the finish, but missing two feet on the left. Operational condition is untested, needs repair and cleaning. The music scrolls have wear consistent with age and use.
