Federal Hall Mirror with Eglomise Reverse Painting

Item Details

A Federal gilt decorated hall mirror with eglomise, or reverse-painted, scene at the top. The painting is of a large stone castle style building with beautiful scroll work surrounding in brown. This mirror has crown molding at the top with beadwork and Neoclassical columns down both sides. Eglomise painting on mirrors was common in the 1800s, generally of universities and important buildings. This has been signed by the artist at the bottom of the scrollwork.

Condition

There are two very small spots worn in the beading.
