Graeme Mitchell Original Dry Point Etching

Item Details

An original drypoint etching titled Morning by well-known Cincinnati physician and artist Dr. Mitchell A. Graeme (1889-1941). This wonderful etching depicts an elderly woman walking the streets in the earliest cold blue light of dawn. Her foot falls are soundless as the light casts shadows all around. The use of dry point is nearly unfathomable in this etching as the blacks the artist has managed to elucidate from the plate are quite like those usually enabled only by mezzotint etching. Graeme was a prominent physician in Cincinnati and even served as the Children’s Hospital director at one point in his career. Graeme was also well-known and respected as a painter and etcher, attempting to preserve the history of Cincinnati in his work. This etching is part of a large collection that was stock for Closson’s Gallery. The etching is presented on woven paper with full margins.
