"Fox-Hunting, Plate 1, The Meet" Print

A Fox Hunting, Plate 1, The Meet print. This reproduction colored aquatint etching, is after John Frederick Herring, Senior’s original painting (1852), engraved by J. Harris, and published by Fores’s National Sports print repository in London. The image depicts the riders gathered before the start of the hunt, and includes a poem by Somerville which reads: (on the left) ‘Delightful Scene! Where all around is gay, Men, Horses, Dogs, And in each smiling Countenance appears, Fresh blooming Health and universal Joy.’ (on the right) ‘Then to the Copse, Thick with entangling grass or prickly furze, With silence lead thy many coloured Hounds, In all their Beauty’s Pride.’ This print is framed under glass, in a gold tone frame with beige linen mat, and includes hunter green and dark red mat.
