Cast Sculptures of Pierre-Felix Fix Masseau FT17 Renault Tanks

A pair of early 20th century spelter sculptural bookends depicting Pierre-Felix Fix Masseau bronze sculpture of FT17 Renault tanks climbing a mound, circa 1919. The tanks were first used in World War I, and were the first tanks to have a revolving turret. Cast Renault Co., Ructfur mark on sides. Marked ‘C.B.W. 1919’ with copyright – appears to stand for Cellini Bronze Works of New York. Pierre-Felix Fix Masseau (1869-1937) was a noted French sculptor born in Lyons who studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He served as director of the École Nationale d’Art Décoratif in Limoges until 1935 and was made officer of the Légion d’honneur. He exhibited numerous works at the Salon des Artistes Francais and the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts and was part of the French decorative art movement, creating many of his works in the Art Nouveau style.

Condition

Wear to finish, one has a metal base with felt protector and the other is missing the metal base.
