Tantalus Lockable Oak Liquor Cabinet Circa 1880

Item Details

A Tantalus liquor cabinet with two decanters, lockable, with its original finish quarter-sawn oak circa 1880. This set has all of its working parts and two cut glass decanters labeled ‘Sherry’ and ‘Muskatel’. The labels are hand-painted on porcelain and hang by chains on the necks of the bottles. The backstamp on both labels reads ‘Crown Staffordshire Made in England’ and they are signed with the artist’s number A697 and L647. The hand-painting on the labels are done in floral motifs and ribbons. All the hardware is silver plate. This lockable caddy is in the locked position when its handle is straight up; pushing down on the cylinder releases the lock and the handle flips over to provide access to two bottles. The bottles are handblown and polished cut glass with the most beautiful cut glass large stoppers, original to the bottles. The bottle will hold liquid and pour with no problem. It looks like the bottles will hold close to a quart of liquid. The size of the bottles are 8.75’ to the top of the stopper. Original skeleton key included.

Condition
