Vintage Gray's Pottery Trinket Box

Item Details

A vintage Gray’s Pottery trinket box. Gray’s Pottery, operating out of Stoke-On-Trent, England, was founded in 1907 and specialized in decorating white ware produced by other potters. This small box is an example of the common practice of adding color to a printed design. The lid of the box features a forlorn man draped across the town stocks.Touches of green, yellow, blue, and orange color the image. The edges of the lid and the sides of the box are painted with Gray’s signature copper-toned ‘lustre’ paint. The bottom of the box is marked with the Gray’s Pottery logo and numbered ‘A 9100’, indicating that the box was made 1951-1955. All decoration is over the glaze.

Condition

Several chips around corners and inside rim of lid. Glaze shows significant crazing.
