Antique A.J. Wilkinson Ltd. "Willow" Platter and Matching Plates

An antique A.J. Wilkinson Ltd. Staffordshire serving platter featuring the classic ‘Willow’ pattern. This platter has scalloped edges, a geometric outer pattern, and a central panel depicting an ‘Oriental’ scene featuring a Chinese temple, fishing vessel, and willow tree. This antique pattern was inspired by the Chinese porcelain imported into England during the 18th century. The ‘Willow’ pattern was highly popular, as evidenced by the pair of contemporary Shenango China plates bearing the same pattern. Shenango China operated out of New Castle, PA and the plates bear the signature seated Native American mark on the bottom. The serving platter was produced by the Wilkinson studio at Royal Staffordshire Pottery, Burslem likely circa 1907. The bottom of the platter is bears the Wilkinson ‘lion and ribbon’ mark.
Condition
Platter shows significant crazing and discoloration consistent with age, as well as a chip on the edge. The plates show only a couple light scratches.
