Rookwood Pottery Signed Jens Jensen 7" Vase XXXIII "S"
Item Details
A 7" Rookwood Pottery vase from 1933, marked with an "S" and signed on the base by the artist Jens Jensen (1898-1978). A unique piece in a modern design with stylized flowers and birds in a matte glaze. This art pottery was a demonstration piece made during a tour of a prominent visitor and is not part of the regular line. The glaze is more glossy and there is a cobalt blue bird over blue and white flowers and brown leaves. Jensen came to the U.S. in 1927 where he had settled in the Cincinnati area and taken a position as a decorator at the Rookwood Pottery. Jensen remained with Rookwood until 1948 and managed to build up an impressive list of art credits during that time. He represented the United States in ceramics at the Golden Gate Exposition (1940s). Please view the website link provided for more information on the artist.
