Original Watercolor on Paper by Charles Clinton Pitcher

Item Details

An original, large scale watercolor by well-revered Pittsburgh artist Charles Clinton Pitcher (Pittsburgh, 1927-2009). Pitcher was an artist best known for his seemingly simple, yet stylistically complex, and realistic renderings of the woodlands in his hometown of Western Pennsylvania. He received degrees from Westminster College, Pratt Institute and Edinboro University before teaching art in the Pittsburgh City School System and later at the Buhl Planetarium. He was also the owner of a gallery and the recipient of many prestigious awards and honors. This piece, which is signed C.C. Pitcher and dated 87’, is a gorgeous example of Pitchers acute understanding of the natural world. A bare grey tree, to the forefront, provides an interesting textural feast for the eyes to rest on before taking in the blues, greens and purples of the smaller branches, in the middle, against a stark white background. The piece is presented in a double mat of white paper, over a woven off white mat and gold toned beveled frame. Concept Art Gallery sticker to the verso.
