Pair of Antique Jacobean Chairs

Item Details

A pair of antique Jacobean chairs which date to circa 1750. These 18th century English chairs feature intricate carving along the backs. Each of the top rails depict an outdoor scene. In one, a man holds a large sword over a figure on the ground. The other depicts the same man with the sword standing next to a pair of angelic figures. The square seats have a scrolling border, and are constructed with glue blocks, although the originals have been replaced. Chairs are supported by turned legs on block feet, and appear to be made of oak.

Condition

Good to Fair: Condition consistent with age. Glue blocks have been replaced. The small section of wood that holds one of the top row back banisters in place is broken. There is some white paint splatter to the back of one of the chairs. They show general wear in the form of worm holes, scratches, and nicks.
