Secretary Bookcase
Item Details
An early 19th century secretary bookcase in two sections, with the upper section constructed of cherry and having two doors with diamond shaped glass panes, many original, set into a lattice framework. The bookcase interior once had wood shelves, now replaced with glass shelves and electric lighting. The mitered cornice molding has been restored at the top of the bookcase section. The lower section is constructed of mahogany and has a hinged lid, which can be supported by pull-out lopers, revealing a partitioned interior of small drawers and pigeonholes. Below are four drawers with brass bale pulls, supported on bracket feet. A beautiful piece, but with ‘married’ sections and extensive restoration.
