Original Oil on Board by Listed Artist Warren Davis

Item Details

A small, original oil on board by listed artist Warren Davis (New York and New Mexico, 1932-1974). This wonderful small, dancing female nude has such movement and spontaneity employed by a creative precision, minute brush strokes and positioning. The artist signed the painting in the lower left corner. The frame was removed for photographic precision. Davis was born in Amarillo, Texas and studied at the University of Texas and at Oklahoma State University. Davis learned his unique technique under the tutelage and mentoring of Amarillo’s visionary teacher, painter and gallery owner, Dord Fitz. In 1962, he lived and worked in New York City, where he achieved critical and commercial success. In 1971 he moved to Tesuque, New Mexico, where he continued to paint until his death at age 42 in 1974. The artist’s works are found in many public and private collections including the Museum of Fine Art, Houston; the New Mexico Museum of Art, Santa Fe; and the Amarillo Museum of Art, which sponsored an exhibit of his works, a posthumous tribute, which included over a hundred of Davis’ paintings in 1975.
