Original Paul Chidlaw Oil on Board Painting
Item Details
An original oil on board Abstract Expressionist painting by Cincinnati’s harbinger of the genre Paul Chidlaw (1900-1989). Chidlaw taught at both Our Lady of Cincinnati College (now part of Xavier University) and the Art Academy of Cincinnati from 1946 to 1963, where he was also a student from 1919 to 1923 before going on to study at L’Ecole des Beaux-Arts, Fountainbleu, France. Chidlaw’s art is highly revered and is displayed at the Cincinnati Art Museum and Xavier University as well as many private collections. The Chidlaw Gallery at the Art Academy of Cincinnati is also named in his honor as he is still revered for being one of the first Abstract Expressionists to work in Cincinnati. This phenomenal painting is extremely abstract. To the verso the painting retains a tag from The Ran Gallery, which titles the painting Abstract. The artist has layered color with time in-between, so that even over top of one another the color haven’t necessarily blended. This painting is most remarkable because of its wild texture. Presented in a thin gilt wood frame.
