Victorian Porcelain Vase with Figures from "Don Quixote"

Item Details

A beautiful antique Victorian porcelain vase, with painted relief figures depicting characters from Cervantes’ classic novel Don Quixote. Specifically, it depicts the famous ‘tilting at windmills’ scene, with Quixote on his horse charging a windmill as Sancho Panza on his donkey follows behind. An entire landscape has been painted in the background, with another windmill and fields spreading to the horizon. The rim of the vase as well as the base and the curling designs below the scene are accented with gold-tone lines. Companion piece to lot 14CIN310-132, a similar vase with a different scene from Don Quixote.

Condition

- the gold-tone accents have partially worn away in a few places, mostly around the base.
