19th Century French Stove

Item Details

A 19th century French stove created in metal with applied decorations of many forms. The opening beneath the marble top is flanked by female figures in brass or bronze ormolu called caryatid, popular on Neoclassical pieces. Hanging in the center is a brass or bronze plaque with the following information ‘Rue Chance Bateliere, 15 et 17 Laperche, A Paris’; this information is also embossed on the inside back of the stove. This is an elegant gas heating device that was probably used in a conservatory. The back of the stove is equally as beautiful with the original ormolu still gilded. This stove was meant to be seen from both sides and sits on a lovely layered marble base with gently scalloped edges.

Condition

The marble base is separate from the stove and incredibly heavy; please come prepared with help on pick up day.
