First Edition "The Gilded Age, A Tale of Today" by Twain, 1873

An edition of The Gilded Age, A Tale of Today by Mark Twain (Samuel L. Clemens) and Charles Dudley Warner, first edition, 1873, published in Hartford by American Publishing Company and Nettleton & Co. of Cincinnati. The book has brown cloth covered boards with the title stamped and gilded to the cover and the spine. The book is illustrated throughout and is stated to have been sold through subscription only. The first page has the handwritten name of the original owner ‘A. Hickenlooper’ and is dated 1874.

Condition

The interior pages of the book are in very good condition considering the age with no foxing and very little toning. The back cover is present but detached and the front cover shows much wear at the spine. The corners at the bottom are bumped and the spine is damaged at both the head and the tail.
