Vintage French Horn

Item Details

A gorgeous vintage French horn in silver-tone metal, with carrying case. It is marked ‘Champion ’Silver Piston’ Chicago’, which does not necessarily indicate that it is silver-plated, but was the name of a line of instruments in a variety of metals made by the Lyon & Healy company, a popular Midwestern mail-order instrument maker of the early 20th century. It comes in a case lined on the interior with green velvet, with padded blocks and slots for the slides, mouthpiece, and other miscellaneous accessories. The outside of the case is covered in black leather and features two clasps, a lock (key missing), and a carrying handle. Four metal knobs serve as feet.

Condition

- the only visible damage to the instrument is some moderate denting below the bell. It seems to be in playable condition (see disclaimer above). The case has superficial damage consistent with its age: the leather is worn away at some of the edges, the leather handle is somewhat tattered, and it has minor scrapes and scuffs.
