Vintage Violin with Kretschmann Label
Item Details
A vintage violin with a paper label inside that reads ‘Georg Carl Kretschmann Violin & Macher in Neukirchen.’ The original violin maker by this name lived in Markneukirchen (Saxony, Germany) from 1702-1783, but this is most likely a Czech copy from the early 20th century. Also included is a G. & S. Chicago hardshell leather case, with green velvet lining, two 25’ bows with loose horsehair strands, and a metal music stand inside a two-piece leather case.

Condition
This violin is untested. It needs to be restrung, and has numerous surface scratches. It may have other defects that are not readily apparent to a non-expert. Four wooden pegs and chin rest are present, and bridge has only 1 screw out of 4. The case is pretty banged up but does latch shut. Condition of velvet interior of case is worn, but zipper works. The two bows need restrung.
