Original Walt Burton Digitally Printed Photo Collage
Item Details
An original collage, reproduced via digital printing, by well regarded photographer, and local hero Walt Burton (b. 1935). This particular image is embellished with a singular hand cut and pasted element just right of center at the bottom. The photographer is well known for having photographed for magazines such as Newsweek, Vogue, Harpers, Time, and Sport Illustrated in the 60s and 70s. He also exhibited in New York at Witkin in the exhibition ‘Fourty Greatest Photographers,’ which included Steichen, Stieglitz and Weston to name a few. Burton has made an extensive career as a lecturer and speaker at universities around the United States. This particular print is exemplary of the artist’s work in the medium of photo based collage. The aesthetic is rooted in traditions of folk, pop, and deco. In this collage three abstracted, silhouetted, female figureheads dominate. Their expressions would seem to express slight exasperation mixed with nagging curiosity as if imagined from the male gaze. These womanly gazers are surrounded by colorful tonalities that reflect tones of sand and surf. The artist has signed the piece to the verso, it comes to you unframed awaiting your choice of presentation.
