Original Walt Burton Digitally Printed Photo Collage
Item Details
An original collage, reproduced via digital printing, by well regarded photographer, and local hero Walt Burton (b. 1935). This particular piece features a single hand glued element to the upper right of center, the viewer ought to be able to read the words ‘Modern Girl.’ The photographer is well known for having photographed for magazines such as Newsweek, Vogue, Harpers, Time, and Sport Illustrated in the 60s and 70s. He also exhibited in New York at Witkin in the exhibition ‘Fourty Greatest Photographers,’ which included Steichen, Stieglitz and Weston to name a few. Burton has made an extensive career as a lecturer and speaker at universities around the United States. This particular print is exemplary of the artist’s work in the medium of photo based collage. The aesthetic is rooted in traditions of folk, pop, and deco. This collage features an image typical of noir comics at the very center. The woman’s eyes are full of fear, sweat trickles down her brow, and her mouth exhales a violent gasp of smoke which transforms into a bouquet of flowers as it extends leftward. The remainder of the image mimics the woman’s blue face, with different textures and an explosive comic book halo surrounding her head. The artist has signed the piece to the verso, and it comes to you unframed awaiting your choice of presentation.
