Fantastic Grouping of 1920s Vintage Architectural Magazines
Item Details
A fantastic grouping of rare 1920s vintage architectural magazines, to include some of the earliest Architectural Digests and two hardbound catalogs from the Chicago Architectural Exhibitions of 1923 and 1925. The latter were designed to accompany exhibits at the galleries of the Art Institute of Chicago and focus on notable architecture to ‘reflect credit on the profession,’ divided into residential/private and commercial/public designs with a section for advertisements that was intentionally curated to ‘give permanent value’ to the volume. The four Architectural Digests, published in Los Angeles by John C. Brasfield, include Volume VII (Number Four), Volume VIII (Number One), Volume X (Number One), Volume XI (Number Three). Architectural Digest was inaugurated in 1920 as an oversized quarterly magazine featuring plans, drawings, and exterior and interior black and white photography of distinguished estates from Southern California. Bound in paper with pictorial covers, each of them unique to the issue.
