An original John Augustus Annus (1935- ) watercolor on paper diptych. Annus is a Latvian-born artist who immigrated to New York City as a young boy, where he received his formal artist training at the Pratt Institute of Brooklyn, Art Students League and the National Academy School of New York. He also received studied and received scholarships to attend programs in Rome. Annus is a photographer, painter and print maker whom is praised for his wonderful landscapes that are often thought of as a modern take of J. M. W. Turner. The watercolor features a two-part diptych, blending together depicting a brown wash mountainous shore with waves collapsing in the sky. The artist has used architecturally structured lines along the base to emphasize the jagged rocks while working as the opposite to the swirling blue waves. The artist signed in pencil to the bottom right along with an illegible title. The watercolor is on a single matting and set in a gold tone metal and glass plated frame. - the watercolor has smudges. Its frame is dirty and is coming a part.
