Matryoshka Stacking Dolls

Item Details

A group of colorful painted wood Matryoshka or Russian style stacking dolls, with some in animal characters. Each of the nested figures has at least five figures, with some having a few more. The outside figure of some of the figures is attired in a sarafan, with the innermost doll of some being a lathed baby cut from a tiny piece of wood. The first Russian nested doll set was carved in 1890.
