1897 French Exposition Poster
Item Details
A beautiful 1897 French Exposition poster designed by Paul Prudhomme in 1897 for the Chemins de Fer de l’Ouest, Exposition de Rennes, held ouvert de Mai a Septembre. The cream and blue poster is a paper piece overlaid on linen and features a classical scene under an arbor, with two maidens on the right: one seated on a blue bench, which has leaning against it large gears, and a standing maiden with outstretched right hand grasping a tree branch, whilst she cradles several branches in her left arm. An unclothed young boy is holding up a locomotive to be admired by the seated woman. The left side of the composition features the tree with a heraldic shield hanging from a branch, a domed thatched birdhouse and a classic Doric column capital. The poster is framed in a narrow wood frame, and would greatly benefit from a professional frame.
