An Ancient Chinese "Bi" Jade Artifact
Item Details
A Chinese Jade ‘Bi’ artifact, a thin circular disc with a precise hole in the center and smooth polished sides. The discs were made from Neolithic times through the Shang period (1300-1030 CE); however, their significance is unknown. They have been found carefully placed on bodies in tombs, so it is assumed that they bear some ritual function. The smooth jade bi, without carved ornamentation are usually the earlier examples. This particular ‘Bi’ is displayed in a custom made black metal stand.
