Signed Limited Edition Lithograph by Francoise Gilot

Item Details

A signed, limited edition print by French artist and author Françoise Gilot (November 26, 1921- ). Although best known as the lover, muse and mother to the children of Pablo Picasso, it is her many personal achievements and honors that has made Gilot an artist and figure of note separate of her famous lover, including her position on the board of the Department of Fine Arts at the University of Southern California and for her work at the Guggenheim. Her breadth of work often reflects that of Picasso’s early period with stylistic and expressive lines and portraits with a Cubist slant but her proclivity towards a softer and oftentimes more vibrant line and distinctive color palate, as seen in this lithograph, set her work apart. Here, in what is most likely one of her later works, an abstracted wharf scene is depicted with a nod towards the artist’s Cubist beginnings. Blocks of color splash burst fourth from the cool blues the artist has chosen. Two abstract figures in the foreground appear to be tying up their boat after a long day on the water. This lithograph is pencil signed to the bottom right corner F. Gilot and numbered to the bottom left corner 121 in an edition of 300. It is presented in a raised double mat with gold tone bevel and a gold tone frame. Marked to the back ‘Pico Ciel Orageux’.
