Original Salvador Dali "Pisum Sensuale" LE Color Etching
Item Details
An original etching by the most famous surrealist to date, Salvador Dali (1904-1989). This exquisite color etching with dry point and pochoir stenciling on Rives, was printed in an edition of 200, part of a portfolio of ten etchings titled ‘Flora Dalinae,’ published in 1968 by Jean Schneider, Basel and Michelle Broutta, Paris. The plate size of this etching matches examples discovered elsewhere, measured to be 23’ h x 15.125’ w. This print is numbered 174/200 and printed on Rives. In total the suite was printed in an edition of 408; the other 208 impressions, of which this is not one, were made on japon – a white paper, much lighter in weight. This specific print is titled ‘Pisum Sensuale (Cobea, Les Levres, Lips).’ It features an illustration, rendered with poichoir, of a leafy green plant that has begun to sprout fingers and human facial features in a manner that’s extremely typical of Daliean imagery. Below the plant is a sprawling landscape rendered with drypoint line describing a basic linear perspective littered with strange surrealist figures. The image is presented in a fine giltwood frame with double mats to edge.
Condition
