Antique Framed Engraving of "Sir Peter Teazle"

Item Details

An antique painting engraved by W. Ward and painted by S. Gilpin of Sir Peter Teazle (1784 – 1811), a British-bred Thoroughbred racehorse bred by Edward Smith-Stanley, 12th Earl of Derby. Teazle was a leading sire in Great Britain and Ireland nine times and carried on the sire line of Herod. His sire was Highflyer, as seen on the reverse side of the image in a brief attached article. Also attached on reverse side is the ‘Pedigree and Performances of Sir Peter Teazle.’ On the front side, words at the bottom read: ‘Sir Peter Teazle, London, Pub. 1785 by G. Garrard at Mr. Gidpane Knightsbridge & N.43 Little Britain.’ Set behind glass and matted in a vintage black wood frame.

Condition

Item is consistent with age. Slight wear on back, scratches and chips in paint on surface of frame.
