Original Dan Boldman Graphite on Paper Drawing

Item Details

An original graphite on paper drawing by well-regarded landscape painter of Southwestern subjects, Dan Boldman. The artist grew up in Portsmouth, OH and has shown his work throughout the state, holding a twenty-five year retrospective in 1992 at the Southern Ohio Museum and Cultural Center in Portsmouth. The drawing featured here, although not really representative of the artist’s work, is remarkably beautiful, incredibly easy on the eyes, and effectively an instant win. A nude female figure, presumably the artist’s wife, stands bare naked in the middle of a circular rug in the middle of the artist’s studio. Behind her on the wall are mounted a beautiful set of steer horns. The image is completely rendered without a single use of crossed contour modeling whatsoever, it would seem. This matter of fact increases the drawing’s beauty immeasurably, making it comparable to the latter works of Matisse. This exquisite Modernistic foray into simple sketching by an artist who normally paints nearly photoreal Southwestern landscapes, is housed in a simple wooden frame with butterscotch stain, floated on a sand-colored mat, coupled with a single white mat to edge.
